The dawn of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is right around the corner. Now that Star Wars is virtually done promoting (and on the heels of that incredibleCaptain America trailer), it’s time for Warner Bros. to step up its game and start hyping Zack Snyder’s potentially epic DC Comics throwdown. And it starts with your first look at the newest trailer.
The footage for Batman v Superman has been scarce so far… even though Snyder and his crew have been finished with their filming for months. We had the San Diego Comic-Con trailer, which connected Snyder’s new movie to his previous Superman adventure, Man of Steel. And the director teased us during Monday’s Gotham with a 60-second scene between Bats (Ben Affleck) and Supes (Henry Cavill). This, however, was so much more.
The big reveal has to be Doomsday, or Zack Snyder’s version of the classic DC villain. There had been rumors that Lex Luthor would use Kryptonian DNA from Michael Shannon’s General Zod to create a monster so strong that Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman would have to join forces. And this trailer finally gave us the best look at him. Outside of that, the second full trailer continued to explore the reasons why Bruce and Clark will start off at odds, laying the groundwork for fertile soil to explore in multiple Justice League movies.
In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the world turns on Kryton’s favorite son because of the destruction he failed to prevent at the end of Man of Steel. Caught in the wreckage, Bruce Wayne (Affleck) begins to investigate this alien threat under the guise of The Batman. Only, in time, the two classic heroes will have to unite to fight off a much larger threat, triggered by Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg).
Batman v Superman helps to launch the rapidly expanding DC Cinematic Universe, an unofficial slate of films that will continue later in 2016 with David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. That super-villain team up will utilize Ben Affleck’s older, grizzled Batman, but he’ll be in the background as The Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith) and more ferocious villains pick up the pieces afterDawn of Justice. From there, it is solo movies for Wonder Woman, Aquaman andThe Flash, to name just a few.
