Before there was the Harry Potter movie released the Sorcerer’s Stone, there was the British novel by Joan Kathleen Rowling; Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The book was first published in June 26, 1996, almost two decades after the final movie; the Deathly Hallows ended the popular franchise.
Joan Kathleen Rowling (J.K. Rowling) is a British writer who was born in Chepstow, Gwent and the author of the famous Potter series. She experienced several hardships in life; divorcing with her husband and becoming unemployed, before and while writing the first novel. The idea of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone came to J. K. Rowling during a train ride. In her interviews and online journals, she emphasized how she imagined a world where a child could have power.
This served as the foundation for creating Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Even while the Philosopher’s Stone was in the making, J.K. Rowling had extreme difficulties, and needed help from Scottish Arts Council, which gave her a grant in order to finish. One trivia gained her more respect from fans and fellow writers is that J.K. Rowling wrote all her books by hand. She has done this loyally from the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to the final chapters of the Deathly Hallows.
This novel series was publishing its 3rd installment when the Warner’s Brothers bought the entire rights. By then, the book has already been published worldwide with an alternative name for other countries which is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Winning the British Books Awards, the Smarties Prize and becoming the Children’s Book of the Year added to the reason why it became an interesting candidate for a movie adaptation. Bloomsbury Publishing, who bought the first book in 1997 is still given great credit for its release, and ultimately making way for its magnified success.
Over the years, J.K. Rowling continued to write and released a Potter installation for every year. Each new book followed the life of boy as he grows accustomed with the Wizarding world and come face to face with the greatest challenges in life. The movie adaptation followed up with a yearly installment for each chapter in Harry’s life. The last book, however, in order to care for the needs of Potter fans, was divided into two parts. The decision to make two movies out of the last book enabled fans to savour the last moments of the enthralling fantasy story.
From the humble Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, J.K. Rowling’s following books became more serious, more inspiring and not short of exciting. The novel series as well as the movie series provided lessons in life that encouraged viewers to value family and friends; perhaps the best type of success to be accomplished by the adaptation. Intermittently, J.K. Rowling has never been better, the Harry Potter series became a permanent glory and fans all over the world are infinitely thankful for her creativity.
