The Vampire Diaries Come to Television For Fall 2009

Between True Blood, Twilight and now the new Vampire Diaries television series, there sure is a lot of entertainment lately for vampire lovers. If you want to take a bite out of the latest effort, then you can catch the Vampire Diaries series as it airs its series premiere on the CW Network on Thursday, September 10th, in the US. Start time is 8 p.m. for the eastern time zone.

If you aren’t familiar with The Vampire Diaries, you may be inclined to think that it is just a tv show jumping on the Twilight bandwagon, since that series of books and the movies have certainly made high school vampire stories all the rage. The truth of the matter though is that The Vampire Diaries predates Twilight by a good number of years.

The first novel in the trilogy was published by author L. J. Smith back in 1991. There were three books, titled The Awakening, The Struggle and The Fury. These proved popular enough to encourage further books in the series and at this time there are now seven of them.

Since the new show is being produced by Dawson’s Creek creator, Kevin Williamson, who isn’t a stranger to horror as well (he did the Scream series), I’m hopeful that the The Vampire Diaries tv series will actually be a pretty good one. Stars of the show are Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley as the vampires and Nina Dobrev as the high school student that is drawn to both of them. They are all talented young actors and of course very good looking as well.

With any luck The Vampire Diaries will survive its first few weeks on the CW network, but like most Fall shows, you just never know what is going to happen. I guess we’ll find out if the Twilight and True Blood fans will flock to this show as well.
