Life Blood is a 2009 horror movie. It stars Sophie Monk as Brooke, Anya Lahiri as Rhea, Scout Taylor-Compton as Carrie, Patrick Renna as Dan, Danny Woodburn as Deputy Shoe, and Charles Napier as Sheriff Tillman. It is written and directed by Ron Carlson.
On New Years Eve 1968 Rhea, a pure heart, and Brooke, a sadist, are driving on Pearblossom Highway after Brooke had murdered an actor attempting to rape a young girl. They encounter the maker of the universe who takes Brooke away. She agrees to bring her back only if Rhea can make her a pure heart like her. They awake 40 years later along the same highway with a mission to rid the world of all evil and gain immortality.
In the film, the creator of the universe (a.k.a. God) is portrayed by a woman. To my knowledge, the Almighty has always been seen as male. But that’s not the only aspect that caught my eye. Another is the fact that, in order to make Rhea strong, God has to kiss her on the lips. As most of us know, in the Bible, God forbids same-sex relationships. Yet, we see God as a woman kissing another woman. It is quite ironic.
It isn’t particularly clear what kind of creatures Rhea and Brooke have been resurrected as. They show characteristics of vampires in that they suck blood and are vulnerable to sunlight and, therefore, unable to come out during the daytime. However, neither God nor the girls use the term vampires. Only the store clerk Dan actually refers to them as such.
To wrap, if you’re looking for a different kind of vampire film, then Life Blood is the movie for you!
