In Cast Away, Tom Hanks plays a guy named Chuck who is one of the managers for Fed-ex. He begins by sending himself a package with a timer in it to see how long it will take for him to get it. He opens it three days later in Russia, which is a major setback for his company. Soon it is Christmas and he flies home to spend literally a little time with his family and fiance. Then the beepers and cell phones ring. His fiance soon drops him off at the airport a few moments later. Christmas gifts are exchanged and they part once again.
The cargo plane hits some bad weather. The pilot tries to fly around it by two hundred miles, but soon the engines stop working and crashes in the middle of the ocean. Chuck was smart enough to grab the life raft moments before the crash, which save his life in more ways than one. It helps him float to the surface and allows him to evade drowning. He wakes up in the morning on a beach in the life raft and soon gets to work finding food and making shelter.
Packages from the plane crash begin washing up on shore, which later save his life. He begins opening them and finds a volleyball, which he names Wilson. He even paints a face on the Volleyball to keep him company and give him advice. In another package, he finds ice skates, which he later uses to chop down trees and remove a rotten tooth. He notices one package is for a friend, and does not open that package. He decides to keep it with him to deliver if he ever gets off the island. In another package, he finds many videotapes, which he later uses to tie a raft together. Find out if he ever gets off the island. Find out what awaits him at home five years later.
