Consistently rated among the top films made of all time, Godfather trivia should be interesting to anyone with an interest in classic films. Most recently, to show how highly it is regarded, the AFI ranked it only behind Citizen Kane on one of their best movie lists. The film was based on a book written by Mario Puzo, and tells the story of the Corleone mob family.
The Godfather, the novel, was one of the most successful novels of all time. The film achieved similar success and recognition, and many feel that was in a large part due to the participation of Puzo in the crafting of the screen play. A Godfather quiz shows that the film was co-wrote by Puzo, Francis Ford-Coppola (the director of the film) and Robert Towne.
Godfather trivia is like a who’s who of the greatest film stars of the sixties and seventies. Made in 1972, this film employed the very best in the business of the time. For many, the highlight of the film was the performance of legendary film actor Marlon Brando as Don Corleone. He won the best actor Oscar for his performance. Robert Duvall, Al Pacino, and James Caan were all also nominated for Best supporting actor. Talia Shire also co-starred in the film, she is Coppola’s sister.
A Godfather quiz will reveal that the film also spawned two sequels. The Godfather Part II was almost as well received as the first. It won the Best Picture Oscar, and also netted Robert De Niro an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. De Niro was clearly the most important addition to previous cast, most of whom reprised their original roles. The Godfather Part II is particularly distinguished for its success as a sequel. Few sequels have performed as well, or been as critically well received.
The third part in the Godfather series was unfortunately not as well received as the first two, and is generally considered a failure when compared to the first two installments in the series. The third movie was released in 1990, and did feature some, but not all, of the previous cast. Al Pacino returned, and the film was primarily about the end of his character, Michael Corleone’s journey. Many feel that the failure of the film was due largely to Robert Duvall refusing to return to portray Tom Hagen once more. He refused the role over salary disparity between himself and Al Pacino.
