Directed by Steven Spielberg, focusing on the Holocaust, the movie was quite a task as many documentaries and TV series of great repute have already been made on it. The task in front of him was to make a movie on the same theme but differ from it, yet it was necessary to remain faithful to the images of six million massacred Jews. You will witness his success, once you watch this film.
The opening scene shows the increasing pressure of the Nazis on the Jews in the year 1939. Then comes Oskar Schindler, (played by Liam Neeson) who is a Nazi businessman interested in getting support from the Jews to build a factory. He takes help from Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley), an accountant who is to arrange all financial matters. For a while he just digs in the dark.
Enter March 18941. The Jewish community is forced to live in ‘the ghetto’. For them money holds no meaning anymore. However, some of the elders become interested and agree to invest their money in his factory called DEF (Deutsche Emailwarenfabrik). DEF finally comes up, a factory that mass manufactures pots. He employs Jews to work in the factory because they are cheaper to hire and the German army becomes his biggest customer.
The whole film has been made in black an white and I think no other choice could have been better. The use of hue has been limited with the amazing photography using a lot of shadows and light. The movie has three major plots and some minor ones. One movie that you just can’t afford to miss.
