Alice Kigsleigh, enacted by Mia Wasikowska who has figured in many top 10 movies by Walt Disney Studios, has lost her father and while attending a party at Lord Ascot’s garden, the nineteen year girl is confronted with questions of career and marriage. Unable to face the unexpected, a confused Alice chases a waistcoat wearing rabbit and falls down a rabbit hole into the mysterious underland that she had visited when she was six years of age and which she had uncorrectly heard as Wonderland. The good residents of underland, the White Rabbit, Domouse, Dodo, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, both portrayed by Matt Lucas, versatile actor of many top rated movies, welcome her and take her to the wise Absolem, the Caterpillar who tells her that she is the chosen one who shall slay Jabberwocky, knight of Red Queen, played by Helena Bonham Carter, heart throb of many top movies, and help restore powers of White Queen, a role put to perfection by Anna Hathaway, a part of many top 10 movies list, on Frabjous Day. The group is attacked by playing-card soldiers led by Knave of Hearts who in the movie has been portrayed by Crispin Glover the first choice of top rated movies and Bandersnatch but Alice manages to run into the woods.
Red Queen is informed of Alice’s arrival and orders Knave to find her before she reaches White Queen. Alice who has lost her way is helped by Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, deftly brought to life by Johnny Depp, a star of the top 10 movies league and March Hare but Hatter is captured and Bayard the Bloodhound helps Alice find White Queen, but Alice decides to free Hatter from the castle of Red Queen. Alice learns that Jabberwocky can be killed only by the Vorpal Sword lying in Bandersnatch’s den. She is able to befriend Bandersnatch and get the sword and escapes to give it to White Queen. Hatter is saved from execution by Cheshire Cat and assembles a group of soldiers who join White Queen’s Army under the leadership of Alice to defeat Red Queen.
On Frabjous Day, the armies of Red Queen and White Queen assemble in the battlefield where Alice confronts Jabberwocky and kills him with the Vorpol Sword. Red Queen and Knave are banished to Outland. Alice, having accomplished her mission decides to return to her home, promising her Underland friends to return soon. She is given a vial of Jabberwocky’s blood and after drinking it she is out of Underland. Now a wiser Alice joins Lord Ascot as an apprentice and begins to explore trade routes to China. Absolem, who has blossomed into a butterfly meets Alice before Alice embarks on her journey.
When director Tim Burton was handed the charge of this film, which has been written by Linda Woolverton and is based on novels on Alice written by Lewis Carroll, he wanted it to be presented like a story, as he has presented his other top movies, rather as a sequence of events and has very intelligently weaved the Animation parts and the 3D shots. A simple children’s story has turned out to be a top rated movie and the biggest grosser for Walt Disney Studios, its producers. A must, must see for its colorful visuals, out of this world sets and a very sweet musical score. Elders are the unintentional beneficiaries who get to feel this out of world experience when they accompany their children for whom this is a life-time see.
