It’s taken 12 years, but “Finding Nemo” fans are finally getting to some information about the sequel. “Finding Dory” will focus on what happened to the forgetful fish Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) after the end of the 2003 animated hit “Finding Nemo.” Disney and Pixar don’t plan to release the film until June 2016, but they’ve dropped plenty of hints about what to expect.
Timeline – While “Finding Nemo” was released over a decade ago, Disney’s chief creative officer John Lasseter explained during a presentation at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival that the sequel will pick up six months later, Variety reports.
New Characters – Several new characters will be introduced in the sequel, including a shark named Destiny. However, Destiny isn’t very scary because she doesn’t even know her species. “She thinks she’s a whale, but she’s actually a shark,” Lasseter revealed.
Family – “Where is Dory’s family?” Lasseter said, according to Deadline, “That has been just bugging us since we made [‘Finding Nemo’] and we thought this could be a great place to move forward.” Dory will be finding her parents in this film. Diane Keaton will voice her mother and Eugene Levy will play her father.
California – Reporters at the Disney presentation were shown images from the film which included the California coastline. “A new look for us,” Lasseter said, noting that the setting of the original movie had been Australia. According to Collider, Dory’s search will lead her to the California Marine Biology Institute.
Nemo Returns – Even though his name has been dropped from the title, it looks like the famous clown fish will appear in “Finding Dory.” In the forthcoming film, Nemo and Dory will both be at school on the Coral Reef when Dory will have a sudden flashback to her childhood, Deadline reports. The sudden memory will make her search for her family. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Nemo and Marlin will go with her.
