Shrek Forever After

The final installment of the series is expected to be big and grandeur but falls short of all expectations. This is an ordinary light hearted entertainment stuff – TV sort of cartoons.

Shrek is bored of his daily life and wants to return to the good old days when the ogres instilled fears in everybody’s mind. The magician Rumplestiltskin comes to know of this situation and offers an ‘Agreement of a lifetime’ and in return he asks the Shrek to give one day of his life. The day would be taken forever from Shrek’s life. He agrees and it turns out the magician has taken his birthday, as a result Shrek no longer exists and will die within 24 hours. All the world has gone back and Shrek does not have his family or friends. Until the Donkey arrives and by chance encounter is able to find a solution to the problem. True first love kiss again with princess Fiona will take everything back to normal. So, our protagonist ventures into an adventure of winning his love back again and fight the Rumplestiltskin and his army.

A simple story, sweetly told but there is not much in terms of plot development. The pace is fast enough to keep you hooked. Since this is a comedy movie, the main focus is on how much it can make you laugh rather than paying attention to the story. Humor is largely lacking but there are few funny moments worth a good smile.

Especially scenes where Shrek tries to scare the neighborhood and then later on the re-introduction of all characters has been cleverly worked upon. Shrek’s 3 babies are too cute and I wished they had bigger role in this movie.
