The New Karate Kid movie was a great and entertaining movie. It was different than the old one, but it was unique and very entertaining. It has been 20 years since the first one came out and I watched it when I was a young boy. This one was just as meaningful. Jackie Chan took Pat Morita’s place as the mentor to the younger kid who needs to learn a form of martial arts.
The first Karate Kid was based in America and around Karate. The new one is based in China and the teacher is Jackie Chan who teaches Jaden Smith Kung Fu. Just as the first movie is plotted, Jaden is experiencing trouble with the kids at school. They don’t like him and pick on him. The kids all know Kung fu and beat up Jaden because he is different and likes a girl that is one of the bullies friends.
Jackie Chan succeeds in teaching Jaden Kung Fu so he is able to fight in a tournament against the other kids. The other kids have a master that teaches them to have no mercy and to punish their enemy. He does not teach morality and kindness to the kids. This makes them confused at while real Kung Fu is about. Jackie Chan teaches that all of life is Kung Fu and that its in everything we do.
In the end, Jaden prevails in the Kung Fu tournament and wins against the other kids. They all show their respect for him and his teacher at the end. The movie is a great watch. It is a bit longer than the other ones, but its good overall. I recommend going to see this at the theater, or buying it when it comes out on DVD. Its a great one to add to your collection. If you don’t have the old ones, you can wait and buy them all together to save some money on the set.
