Angels & Demons – Wow What a Movie

Although I watched the first movie based on Dan Browns’ bestseller “The Da Vinci Code” I hadn’t planned on watching the movie Angels and Demons, but boy was I glad I did. It was a great and I thought it was better than the first; it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I was surprised to see that Tom Hanks was in the movie (no, I didn’t read the books either) he is looking good by the way. My friend who had read the books mentioned that Angels & Demons was the first book and The Da Vinci Code came second… interesting.

I learned a tremendous amount about the Catholic Church from watching this movie, and you might too. Plus if you are a history buff you may enjoy it even more.

This time the Vatican comes to Professor Robert Langdon because they need his expertise in deciphering a symbol. The Pope has died and a new Pope must be announced but before they can do so a group called the Illuminati kidnaps 4 cardinals as an act of revenge.

These 4 cardinals are called the Preferiti, (preferred Pope candidates) and the Professor along with Physicist Vittoria, the Swiss Guard Commander Richter played by Stellan Skarsgard (Will Turner Sr. in Pirates of the Caribbean) and Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi /Star Wars) with his beautiful Scottish accent plays the Camerlengo (acting head of State of the Vatican City while a new Pope is found) only have a short time to find these symbolic churches where the cardinals are held captive or once a hour one will be killed.

If that wasn’t evil enough if they don’t find out where the cardinals are, the Illuminati will wipe out of the Vatican as the grand finale using antimatter that was created in the lab. That is the whole premise of the movie science over religion or vice versa.

If you like action thrillers I think you will enjoy this movie. I had my slight suspicions of who might have been responsible and right before the end I figured it out, but I’m not telling.

This movie was directed by Ron Howard who did a fine job, although they killed a lot of really handsome Italian actors in the making of this movie.
