Batman has returned in the new movie ‘The Dark Knight’ that was released this month. Batman is the superhero character from the original DC Comics. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan who was also the co-writer for the story. The Dark Knight is essentially a sequel to the 2005 film, Batman Begins.
The movie is mainly filmed in Chicago and is based around Batman / Bruce Wayne, starring Christian Bale, and his conflicts in protecting Gotham City against the criminal underworld and Batman’s fight against the Joker, played by Heath Ledger who sadly died, shortly after completion of filming in January 2008. The production of the movie in Chicago created thousands of jobs and injected 10’s of millions of dollars into the city’s economy. Short sections of the film were also shot in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.
Bruce Wayne / Batman is a billionaire, dedicated to freeing Gotham City from the evil underworld and is continually involved in the struggle with the Joker. Aaron Eckhart stars as Harvey Dent the district Attorney of Gotham City and his continual battle with the Joker. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays the Rachael Dawes who is the assistant to the Gotham district Attorney and is one of the few people aware of the identity of Batman.
The Dark Knight is produced by Warner Bros. and is to be released in Australia, North America and United Kingdom over throughout July 2008. Batman fans worldwide have been waiting with high expectations for this much anticipated movie and it is unlikely that they will be disappointed.
