Pandorum – The Sci-Fi Flick of the Year

Directed by Christian Alvart, the new US-Germany joint venture sci-fi/horror flick Pandorum has hit the box office hard on September 25. With a total production cost of $40 million, of which $6 million was provided by the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), the movie has already earned gross revenue of $4,410,000.

The film is mesmerizing. Written by Travis Milloy, the storyline is astoundingly original. Starring Dennis Quaid as Payton, Ben Foster as Bower and Cam Gigandet as Gallo, the main plot of the movie is centered around these three characters, who played as marooned crew members in a spaceship. Bower and Payton suddenly found themselves in a spaceship far away from planet earth, and with no memory whatsoever, they have found themselves absolutely clueless. They begin exploring the ship in desperation, and with the help of Payton’s radio, Bower manage to find some other survivors, from which they have learned a horrifying truth, that they are the last survivors of the total human race.

Immediately they set their mission that is to regain control of the ship by reaching out to the ship’s reactor and activate it. But they have to fight two major enemies, one is the mutant group, and other is fighting their own self, a psychological disorder named Pandorum. On their way, they have met with Gallo, the twisting character of the plot, who suffered from severe pandorum after receiving the message from earth that they are the only remaining members of human race, killed several crew members and caused thousand others to mutate.

After much violence and bloodshed, Bower finally manages to activate the ship’s reactor. But then the final twist in the tail comes, when bower finds out that Gallo is actually Payton, the main villain responsible for preventing the ship to reach its’ destination, an earth-like planet destined to be the second home for the human survivors. The story ends quickly afterwards, Bower had a fight with Payton and killed him in the process, and comes out of the ship with the remaining survivors to their final destination.
