The Best Movie Cars

The cars in films are starting to stand out as loud and brash as the celebrity stars themselves and beginning to generate the same, if not more attention. There are literally hundreds of films that could fit into a loose definition of “car movie,” And it is almost plausible that every action, sci-fi, thriller and even rom-com will try and seduce us with the portrayal of a flashy car.

The recent hit film Twilight has brought several exotic cars to our attention. Edward Cullen trades in the Volvo C30 that he drives in the first film for one of the most exquisite automobiles ever built – the Aston Martin Vanquish in the second film.

For many of us that grew up loving classic films, the DeLorean from the movie ‘Back to the Future’ is almost as popular as the movie itself. 6 were bought for the original movie and 3 of those were cut up for studio use. Today it is widely remembered and respected. Batman’s Bat mobile has also been a prominent car on our screen for generations, with a toy box laden with wonderful features like machine guns, nose drop bombs, and protected by an armour shell, the 1989 bat- mobile is built on a version of a 1974 Chevrolet Impala Chassis. Such engineering and design excellence went into the making of every bat-mobile, especially their most recent hit, The Dark Knight’

James Bond has always been a car enthusiast, in the opening scene of Quantum of Solace there was a car chase between an Aston Martin DBS and an Alfa Romeo 159 and in one of my favourite films, The Transporter Jason Statham is not only involved in a lot of physical combat, but drives a stunning BMW 735i and is chased by a hoard of Peugeot 306 police cars. I would love to see Jason’s Stunt double drive a BMW3 series in Cardiff, i wonder if he could pull a 2 wheeler in that down their country roads?

Car films growing and with the likes of designers coming up with futuristic Audi’s like the one in ‘I, Robot’ car manufacturers are using such wild designs to create better concepts.
